Abstract
The article deals with processes of maritime meaning-making. Grasping the ocean as a socio-cultural sphere and closely following the everyday life of a Sama community, practices and implicit meanings are approached in their entangling. Daily activities to make a living, material transformations like concrete houses and money, the strong emphasis on togetherness and the role of hoping (mudah-mudahan) as a guiding motive are addressed.
