Abstract
The Mecklenburgian Great Lakes (Lake Plau to Müritz) and the connected (adjacent) smaller lakes were investigated for the presence of amphipod species. Both historical data and the present situation (2014 to 2016) were described. Due to high traffic, notable introduction of neozoan species in recent history originates from federal waterways. Species inventory has completely changed from few autochthonous species to several allochthonous amphipods (in this case of Ponto-Caspian origin). Adjacent lakes were colonised with time delay as a function of their connectedness. While Gammarus lacustris G.O. Sars, 1864 already had disappeared in the middle of the 20th century and the probably also introduced Gammarus varsoviensis Jażdżewski, 1975 is missing again, Gammarus pulex (Linnaeus, 1758) and Gammarus roeselii Gervais, 1835 are currently restricted to some small tributary waters of the lakes (creeks and wells). The amphipod fauna of the lakes presently consists of allochthonous Ponto-Caspian species only.
