New Developments in International Investment Agreements as Regards Foreign Investors' Obligations. In Search of a More Balanced Approach
The controversial nature of foreign direct investment has raised specific concerns about the activities of foreign investors within host states and has triggered various reforms of international investment law, particularly regarding the obligations of foreign investors. This book explores the currently available international investment agreements to determine whether, and to what extent, they include investors’ obligations.

The main focus of this study is to assess whether the inclusion of such obligations in international investment agreements constitutes an effective legal mechanism to ensure that foreign investors behave in a more responsible manner towards host states and local communities. Ultimately, the research aims to answer a fundamental question: do new international investment agreements contribute to making the current international investment law regime fairer and more balanced?
